The Story Behind the Painting

"Fruits of the Sunlit Garden" is an original oil painting by Ukrainian artist Marina Stognieva, created in 2024. The artwork is part of the author's cultural project "Picturesque Guide to Ukraine" and represents the Crimea chapter of this artistic journey through Ukraine.

The painting was inspired by the abundance of southern gardens filled with sunshine, fragrant fruit and the rich colours of the Crimean landscape. Ripe pomegranates, figs and vibrant green leaves appear on a deep dark background like precious gifts of nature gathered at the end of a warm summer day.

At the centre of the composition stands a large dark plate filled with freshly cut pomegranates and figs. Their glowing shades of crimson, ruby, pink, violet and amber shine against the almost black background, making the fruit appear illuminated from within by the warm southern sun.

The opened pomegranates resemble precious jewel boxes filled with ruby-red seeds, while the velvety figs add softness and warmth to the composition. Delicate white blossoms scattered throughout the painting create the feeling of a living garden and beautifully balance the rich colours of the fruit.
