The Story Behind the Painting

“Bright Sun of Tuscany” is an original painting by Ukrainian artist Marina Stognieva, created in 2019. The work is painted in oil on canvas and measures 20 × 20 cm.

The painting belongs to a group of works inspired by the artist’s journey through Italy in autumn 2019. After this trip, Marina Stognieva created more than ten paintings in which she preserved her personal impressions of Italian landscapes, colour, light, and atmosphere.

The composition brings together some of the most recognisable features of the Tuscan landscape — warm earth, houses with terracotta roofs, tall slender cypress trees, and an expansive blue sky. Hay bales in the foreground add a sense of the completed harvest season and the quiet rhythm of rural life.

The colour structure of the painting is based on the contrast between the intense blue sky and the golden ochre tones of the land. Sunlight seems to spread across the entire surface of the canvas, intensifying the warmth of the landscape and creating the feeling of a clear and peaceful day.

The cypress trees create a strong vertical rhythm and immediately evoke the landscape of Tuscany. Their dark silhouettes balance the lighter buildings and open fields, while textured brushstrokes convey the uneven surfaces of earth, grass, and trees.
