The Story Behind the Painting

"Girl and Solomon the Cat" is an original painting by Ukrainian artist Marina Stognieva, created in 2025 during her life in the English countryside. This intimate and deeply personal artwork tells a story of tenderness, trust and the feeling of safety that can arise through the quiet presence of a beloved living companion.

At the centre of the composition, a young girl in a long rose-petal-coloured dress sits in a large vintage armchair. She gently embraces a magnificent white cat named Solomon, who rests calmly in her arms. Their closeness is conveyed without unnecessary movement — through touch, expression and the peaceful understanding that exists between them.

The white cat becomes one of the emotional centres of the artwork. Solomon appears majestic, independent and full of character, yet he completely trusts the girl holding him.
