The Story Behind the Painting

“Kittens in Bow Ties” is an original painting by Ukrainian artist Marina Stognieva, created in 2022. The work is painted in oil on canvas and measures 20 × 24 cm.

At the centre of the composition are two fluffy light-coloured kittens sitting closely beside one another. Their large attentive eyes, soft fur, and bright bow ties create an image filled with tenderness, domestic warmth, and a gentle sense of playfulness.

Each kitten seems to have its own personality. One appears more serious and attentive, while the other feels softer and slightly more innocent. The red and blue bow ties emphasise this difference while also bringing the two figures together in a small, almost family-like portrait.

Texture plays an important role in the painting. Free, expressive oil brushstrokes build the kittens’ fur and give it an almost tactile quality. The cool blue and turquoise tones of the background contrast with the warmer cream, pink, and white shades of the animals.
