"Gypsies in the Field" is an original oil painting by Ukrainian artist Marina Stognieva, created in 2019. Marina Stognieva spent her childhood in a village in eastern Ukraine, where people of different cultures and backgrounds lived side by side. At the centre of the composition, a rider carrying a guitar slowly approaches along a country road. His presence fills the landscape with an invisible melody, as if music is flowing through the open fields together with the warm evening breeze. The horse moves calmly and confidently, becoming a symbol of freedom, movement and the enduring connection between people and nature.

Walking beside him are three women dressed in colourful flowing skirts decorated with floral patterns. Their vibrant garments create a joyful harmony of blue, gold, white, red and violet tones. Each figure has her own personality, yet together they form a unified image of friendship, family and shared traditions passed down through generations.

The surrounding landscape plays an equally important role. Endless green fields, a winding country road and the glowing orange sky evoke the peaceful atmosphere of a summer evening. The open horizon becomes a metaphor for an endless journey, reminding the viewer that true freedom is found not in a destination, but in the path itself.
