History of the Painting

“Slovak Castle” is an original painting by Ukrainian artist Marina Stognieva, created in 2019. The work is painted in oil on canvas, measures 70 × 100 cm, and is presented unframed.

The castle appears amid an autumn landscape, as if rising from a sea of golden, yellow, orange, and crimson foliage. The light walls and cool greenish roofs of the architecture contrast beautifully with the warm colours of the trees, while the mountain view in the background adds depth and a sense of distance from everyday life.

Surrounded by autumn colours, the architecture takes on an almost fairytale-like character. The castle remains the central focus of the composition, yet it is the vivid foreground of trees that creates the emotional atmosphere of the work. Here, autumn is not just a background — it becomes an essential part of the image itself.

The painting was created in the artist’s studio in Kyiv in 2019. A preserved studio photograph allows us to see how the landscape gradually took shape and how the architecture was combined with a rich autumn palette.

After its completion, the painting continued its story through exhibitions. “Slovak Castle” took part in two exhibitions in Kyiv: at the House of Artists in 2019 and at the exhibition of the Obolon District State Administration in 2022.

The painting is shipped rolled in a protective tube. The canvas is carefully removed from the stretcher bars and packed for safe transportation. After delivery, it can be re-stretched and framed to suit the interior.
