Personal Story
When Autumn Itself Gives an Artist an Idea
October 2023 in Kyiv was exceptionally bright and gentle. Walks among crimson trees, golden leaves and soft autumn light gradually turned into a new creative idea — to bring art out of the studio and into the park.
That is how a small open-air art event came to life. Paintings appeared among trees and fallen leaves, and an ordinary walk through the park briefly became an open gallery, where painting existed side by side with nature.
For Marina Stognieva, it was not only a way to show her work. At a time when the war had already shaped life in Ukraine for almost two years, the very possibility of once again feeling a strong desire to create became especially meaningful.
“October turned out to be incredibly bright and gentle. Walking along the paths among crimson trees, my imagination suggested the possibility of creating an art event in the open air. I did not hesitate for long and began preparing it. I eagerly catch moments of inspiration like these and try to bring an idea to life as quickly as possible. The last two years of war have affected every one of us, and when my soul begins to awaken and reaches for creativity, I feel joy and I do not stop its flight.”

Paintings Leave the Studio
The preparation began directly on location. The works had to be arranged in such a way that they did not compete with nature, but instead became part of the autumn landscape.
Golden leaves, tree trunks, natural light and painting formed a completely different kind of gallery for a few hours — without white walls, museum silence or the usual boundaries of an exhibition hall.

Watercolours Born from the Colours of the Season
Autumn Kyiv continued to live not only in the photographs of that day. Its light, trees, birds and colours also became part of the artist’s watercolour works.
