At the centre of the composition is a solitary nude figure sitting on warm sand with her back to the viewer, facing the sea. The surrounding space is almost entirely open: the horizon is quiet, the water appears calm, and a small white sailboat can be seen in the distance. This restrained composition creates a sense of silence, freedom, and complete solitude with nature.

The composition is deliberately minimal. The human figure occupies the lower central part of the work, while almost all of the remaining space is given to the sea, sky, and broad horizon. This structure strengthens the sense of nature’s scale and at the same time makes the figure feel especially vulnerable, quiet, and alive.

Marina Stognieva works with broad areas of colour: a deep blue horizon, turquoise sea, pale sand, and warm flesh tones. Fine detail is not the focus here. Instead, the painting is built around atmosphere. Colour and the rhythm of the brushstrokes convey air, openness, and calm.

The figure is shown from behind, so the viewer does not see her face and is not given a fixed narrative. This allows the woman to be perceived almost as a universal image of a person alone with the sea. Her posture is relaxed yet contemplative, as though she is not simply resting but listening to the silence around her.

In the detail, the living texture of the oil paint becomes especially visible. The body is painted with free brushstrokes combining warm flesh tones, pinks, greys, and cooler accents. The contours are not sharply closed, allowing the figure to interact with the sand and light and remain part of the wider landscape.

The small sailboat in the distance becomes an important detail of the composition. It is almost lost within the vastness of the sea, yet this small white vertical accent gives the image depth and introduces a sense of distant movement beyond the stillness of the foreground.

In the “Nudist Beach in Painting” series, Marina Stognieva is interested not in nudity for its own sake, but in the state of a person who can exist without tension, without a social role, and without the need to perform for others. The body returns to its natural presence within the environment — beside the sea, sand, wind, and light.

There is no conventional event unfolding here, yet it is precisely this absence of action that creates the work’s central mood — silence, openness, and the feeling that time has stopped rushing.
