About the Series
In this series, Marina Stognieva explores the nudist beach as a space of freedom, where people can leave behind social roles, clothing and the habit of constantly judging their own bodies.
This is only the beginning of a series that will gradually grow with new paintings and works on paper. In each artwork, the artist explores natural nudity, seaside light, bodily freedom and the closeness between people and nature.

I have visited nudist beaches, and I really enjoy sunbathing topless. I have not yet felt brave enough to sunbathe completely nude, but I have always found it fascinating to see how free and natural people feel in a place where there is no need to hide or feel ashamed of the body.
When I swim nude, I feel an extraordinary connection with the water and nature. In that moment, all unnecessary barriers between the body and the surrounding world seem to disappear. For me, it is one of the most natural states a person can experience.
This is the feeling of freedom that I want to express in my paintings. I am not interested in nudity as a demonstration. I am interested in the moment when a person stops feeling ashamed, relaxes and once again feels like a living part of nature.
