Sensuality, desire and the freedom of the female body expressed through contemporary art
About the series
Eroticism as Part of Human Nature
Artist Marina Stognieva observes people—their bodies, emotions, relationships and hidden desires. She is interested in what a person reveals to the world and what usually remains unspoken: inner freedom, sexuality, attraction, shyness, trust and the need for intimacy.
Behind the art
From a Live Model to an Erotic Abstraction
Working with a nude model begins with observation: the natural position of the body, its fluidity, the character of its movements, its mood and the person’s inner presence. For the artist, it is important not merely to record anatomical form, but to sense the emotion conveyed by the model.
During the creative process, the real image gradually changes. Proportions may become deliberately unconventional, contours become freer, and the body transforms into a rhythm of lines, colours and touches. This is how an erotic abstraction is born— combining a recognisable female figure with the artist’s personal vision.

Artworks in the series
Female Erotic Abstractions
In each painting, the nude female body becomes a language of emotion. Abstract form allows the artist to explore eroticism, trust, attraction and freedom without relying on a literal representation of reality.
Female Erotic Abstraction No. 1
“Two Figures — Trust”
Oil and acrylic paints on canvas
Two female figures move towards one another, creating a single fluid rhythm. The painting explores trust, physical closeness and the unique space between two people in which they can remain open, vulnerable and authentic.
In this work, nudity is presented as a natural state in which there is no need to perform a role or conceal one’s true self. The closeness of the female figures creates an atmosphere of mutual acceptance, relaxation and emotional freedom.
The title sounds like an inner permission to accept one’s own body, sensuality and desires. The painting is about liberation from imposed shame and a woman’s right to be visible, to feel beautiful and not to hide her natural sexuality.
The painting captures a moment of mutual attraction, when the distance between two people almost disappears. In the intertwined female forms, tenderness meets desire, while the kiss becomes a symbol of genuine intimacy and emotional freedom.
In this work, boldness is combined with vulnerability. The fishnet stockings emphasise the erotic character of the image, while the abstract treatment of the figure shifts attention away from individual identity and towards physical sensation, inner tension and female self-awareness.

Female Erotic Abstractions is a series of nude paintings in which the naked body becomes more than a representation of external form: it becomes a reflection of human essence. Here, eroticism appears as a natural and inseparable part of the individual—as genuine as tenderness, vulnerability, solitude or love.
Moving away from precise academic representation, the artist transforms female figures into fluid visual signs and emotional images. Lines intertwine, forms move closer together, colours create tension, and the nude body becomes a language through which the painting speaks about desire, intimacy and self-acceptance.
These works do not attempt to conceal the erotic nature of the female image. Instead, the artist explores it openly yet delicately— as an expression of vital energy, bodily freedom and a woman’s right to feel, to desire and to define the boundaries of her own intimacy.
“For me, eroticism is not simply the naked body. It is a person’s inner energy—the ability to experience desire, to trust, to open up and to feel no shame about one’s true nature.” Marina Stognieva
