About the Series
The Male Body as an Image of Strength and Vulnerability
In this male nude art series, Ukrainian artist Marina Stognieva explores the body as a way of seeing a person beyond familiar social roles. She is interested not only in the physical beauty of the male figure, but also in character, inner tension, tranquillity, loneliness, tenderness and hidden vulnerability.
In these works, the male body may appear strong and tense, relaxed and reflective, open or absorbed in its own inner world. The pose, direction of the gaze and movement of the shoulders, arms and back allow the artist to reveal more about a person than a conventional portrait might express.
Nudity does not deprive the man of dignity or reduce his image to physical attraction alone. Instead, it allows him to be seen naturally — without protective clothing, social status or the expectation that he must always appear strong.
“In the male body, I am interested not only in strength. It is important for me to see what often remains hidden: fatigue, tenderness, loneliness, trust and a man’s right to be vulnerable.” Marina Stognieva
The Language of Drawing
Charcoal, Pencil and the Living Line
When creating male nude drawings, Marina Stognieva works with charcoal and black pencil. These materials allow her to combine soft transitions of light and shadow, deep dark accents and quick, expressive lines.
The artist does not seek a cold academic representation of the body. Some contours remain free, the marks preserve the movement of the hand, and proportions may follow the emotional atmosphere rather than strict precision. As a result, each drawing feels like a living encounter with another person.
Below is a selection of Marina Stognieva’s male nude drawings and erotic abstractions devoted to the body, its movement, strength, freedom and inner vulnerability. Each artwork has its own story and reveals a different aspect of male nature.

Male Nude Art: Five Stories of the Body and Character
Each artwork reveals a different image of a man: reflective, strong, relaxed, sensual or absorbed in his own thoughts. The nude body becomes a language through which the artist explores character, emotional presence and the natural beauty of a person.
Male Nude Artwork No. 1
“Nude Man in an Armchair”
Charcoal on paper
A man rests in an armchair, and his relaxed pose creates a feeling of silence and inner calm. His physical strength is not deliberately displayed; it exists naturally alongside tiredness, reflection and trust in the surrounding space.
The expressive male figure attracts attention through its physical beauty, but the title invites the viewer to look deeper. Behind the strong body, the artist sees kindness, sensitivity and inner gentleness — qualities that may not be visible during a first encounter.
A fragment of the male body becomes an independent visual image. The softness of the form is combined with the geometric rhythm of fishnet fabric, creating an intimate yet delicate exploration of sensuality, attraction and freedom of perception.
The man and the horse are shown together as two living beings connected by quiet trust. Their closeness suggests a natural bond and a shared sense of strength and tranquillity. Here, nudity becomes an expression of openness and the human return to nature.
A hot summer day slows every movement and encourages the body to seek rest. The man leans back, opening his pose to the surrounding air and space. The drawing conveys summer languor, relaxation and the brief moment when a person allows himself to stop and go nowhere.

The Body and Character
The Inner Portrait of a Man
In this series, eroticism is not limited to the display of the nude body. It emerges through posture, gaze, muscular tension, the stillness of the hands and the feeling of another person’s presence. These details create an emotional connection between the image and the viewer.
Male strength is not presented as a constant need to prove something. It can exist alongside tenderness, relaxation, loneliness, trust and the need to be accepted without judgement.
By moving away from an idealised image, the artist preserves the living mark, the natural pose and the individuality of each man. The nude body therefore becomes not an impersonal form, but an extension of human character.
“I am interested in the moment when the body ceases to be merely a body and begins to tell us about a person, their character, feelings and inner freedom.” Marina Stognieva
